Community in the Body…its a LIFE issue.

Scott Palmer | October 29, 2009 | 9:05 am

It was great to worship together last night at the Gathering, its always fun to see how the Holy Spirit moves us through the evening. Our time of prayer and personal ministry was awesome, I believe its what God had for us last evening. Here are the thoughts on Community and Relationship that I was going to share last night, of course  we got to live it out rather than just talk about it. That is always a better thing!!

Relationship is a shared life in Christ, expressed through mutual devotion and responsibility to one another.
Fellowship and Shared Lives:
Mutual, loving and truthful sharing of lives in accountable and committed friendships.
Proverbs 27:17, Eccl. 4:9-12, Acts 2:42-47
Pastoring and Mentoring:
Equipping each other through encouragement, accountability and participation in spiritual maturity, Godly character and service in God’s Kingdom.
John 13:34,35  Acts 11:22-26, Ephesians 4:11-13

Please take a moment in your time with God to read these scriptures that support the simple statements. Over the next few weeks as we close out the fall semester and look to the spring semester Tech Fellowship is going to emphasis community in our lives. This semester we have done a good job in corporate worship and service, but another one of our core values is community and the relationships that are developed. Our Wednesday activities at 7pm in the Tech Fellowship Building, Parents Day on Nov. 22nd and our retreat before finals are great ways to build community. As we plan for the spring our LIFE Groups (small group informal fellowship) and FOCUS (small group Bible Study) are crucial in seeing the community that we desire for Tech Fellowship. As you read this today I would love to hear any of your comments, these can be given at the bottom of the post. God Bless You Today.

A Rainy Tuesday

Scott Palmer | October 27, 2009 | 12:43 pm

Even a rainy Tuesday in the fall can be pretty. With all the leaves changing into their beautiful colors not even rain can ruin the beauty of nature this time of year. Besides there are other benefits to a rainy day; warm coffee or tea, a hoodie or maybe a scarf, how about those warm boots so feet stay dry. See there,  I talked you into loving this rainy Tuesday!

I hope that your week is going well. Here is some good news, I just counted and I think you have only 26 days of class left before FINALS! The fall semester always goes so fast for me, I hope for you as well. I know that for some of you this is your last semester, finish hard at the end. Here are some activities that you might choose to be apart of over the next couple weeks with Tech Fellowship.

  • This Wednesday, October 28th tf is hosting another Gathering. Our band will lead us in worship, we will have teaching and testimonies along with prayer and fellowship. We hope to see you. This Gathering is our last opportunity to give this month for our kids in India, please bring a generous offering to bless our kids. Also we are collecting bags of candy to help support Kids Fest that will be held at the Hughes Center on Saturday. This event is sponsored by TECH students for the kids of Russellville. Lets each bring a bag of candy to donate.
  • Delta State comes to TECH this weekend for the last home football game of the year. We will tailgate at 3pm in the grass area beside Williamson. Chili will be served this week along with plenty of hot drinks.
  • Here are two dates to put on your calender. November 22nd is Tech Fellowship Parents Day at Fellowship of Christians. The tf band will be leading worship in the morning services and then we will have a meal for you and your parents after the morning service. More info at the Gathering this week. Also, we are working on details for a one night tf fall retreat on December 4th. Keep checking in for more details.

See you at the Gathering on Wednesday.

Homecoming Week Updates

Scott Palmer | October 13, 2009 | 1:31 pm

Last week I gave you a number of opportunities to connect with tf. I want to take a moment and remind or update some of those events.

  • This is a big week for Lisa Harst. She is tf’s Homecoming Nominee and she is also a semifinalist for this years Tech Idol. At 9pm on Tuesday you can cheer on Lisa as she performs in Witherspoon Auditorium. On Wednesday from 10am-4pm in the Doc Bryan Rotunda you can vote for Lisa to be TECH’s 2009 Homecoming Queen. Spread the word to your friends to vote for Lisa on Wednesday, a Tech ID is required to vote. Do well Lisa, we all believe in you!
  • At the Gathering tomorrow night we have a special guest. Gloria Santos from Brazil will be talking to us about the work that she does as the Director of Ray of Hope Ministries. As she shares you will see her heart that beats with passion for the less fortunate. She is the ultimate servant of God, giving her life away for another. We will meet at 8pm in the Fellowship of Christians Auditorium. Please do not miss this great chance to meet a woman who was raised on the river in the Amazon Region of Brazil and now is serving her people so that they can encounter their Creator as she has. The tf band will lead worship, we will have  a time to pray for Gloria and as always we will take up an offering for our kids in India.
  • On Thursday look for the tf banner in Tucker as we support the Volleyball Team. Come cheer on the Suns with us.
  • We will have a Tailgate Party at 3pm on Homecoming Saturday in the grass area beside Williamson. Hope to see you there.

Be Blessed this week and remember: love serve live

Connecting in tf

Scott Palmer | October 8, 2009 | 1:03 pm

I know at this point in the semester you have found a routine that works for you. Usually that involves alot of studying and occasionally some free time. In this post I want to update you on some of  Tech Fellowships activities. I know its hard to do everything but these are a few ways that we might be able to connect with you. I am actually going to go back to the beginning of the week and look at a two week block of time.

  • Monday: as always we met at Doc’s Place for our Monday Prayer at 7am. 6 of us met for prayer, what a great way to start the week. We will do it again next week. We would love to see you.
  • Tuesday: we have four of our tf students that are tutoring at one of the five housing projects in Little Rock. This week Kimmie had the opportunity to lead the little boy she is tutoring to a relationship with Christ. Thanks to Kaley, Kimmie, Becca and Seth for serving these great kids.
  • Wednesday: last night 8 or 9 tf students went to the Atkins Care Center to visit with the elderly. We serve these folks on the 1st and 3rd  Weds. of each month. Come and be apart.
  • Saturday: this Sat. we will have a tailgate party at 3pm. TECH plays at 6pm and this is a great time to relax with friends on gameday. Food is delivered at 4pm and this week we will have tables set up  for you to be apart of painting the tf banner. We will enter the banner in the Homecoming contest next week. Meet us in the grass area beside Williamson.
  • Sunday: if you do not have a regular place of worship on Sunday we would love to have you at Fellowship of Christians. We have services at 8:30 and 11am. There are Bible Classes available at 9:50.
  • Monday: Prayer at 7am. Start of Homecoming Week!
  • Tuesday: Lisa Harst is tf’s Homecoming Nominee, she is also a finalist for Tech Idol. Go to Doc Bryan Lecture Hall tonight to watch her perform.
  • Wednesday: take time today to vote for Lisa Harst 2009 Homecoming Queen. Voting is in Doc Bryan from 10am - 4pm. Tech Fellowship is proud of Lisa and would love to have her represent tf and the University for 2009. Contact Lisa for ways to help spread the word, promo cards are available.
the Gathering is at 8pm tonight. Come and hear Gloria Santos from Brazil tell her story.
  • Thursday: tf is preparing the pregame meal for the Golden Suns Volleyball team at 5pm. Meet at the Green and Gold room in Tucker to meet the players and let them know that we support them. tf will also attend the game at 7pm as they play OBU.
  • Friday: be apart of decorating the tf Homecoming Float. Contact us for ways you can be apart.
  • Saturday: Homecoming Day! Be apart of the Downtown Parade at 2pm and tailgate with us at 3pm. Lets get Lisa on that gameday Homecoming Court.

Congratulations Lisa Harst

Scott Palmer | September 22, 2009 | 9:57 am

Lisa Harst has been approved by the SAB at Tech to be the 2009 Tech Fellowship Nominee! This week at the Gathering we are giving Lisa a chance to tell her story. Come and hear her goals, passions and experiences in life that have brought her to this point. Join the Lisa Harst for 2009  Homecoming Queen Group on facebook.

How is your week going, did any of you lose electricity on Monday evening? That was an amazingly strong storm. I woke up this morning thinking about the many ways we see God in our lives and after that storm it is obvious that our God is a strong and powerful God. I know today though I am asking God for His peace, how about you?
If you think about it tonight please pray for Kimmie, Kaley, Becca and Seth as they travel to Little Rock to mentor and tutor students in one of the five housing projects in Little Rock. Thanks you guys for being the hands and feet of Jesus over the next 6 weeks. love serve live, that’s what we are all about.

Here are the events of the week:

  • This Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at 8pm tf is hosting the Gathering. We will again meet in the Fellowship of Christians Auditorium. Our tf worship band will be led this week by Roger Norman. CJ and Allie will be in South Carolina preparing for their wedding on Saturday. Congratulations, we love you both. This week we are going to take some time and write letters to our kids in India, we will follow this up with a time of prayer for each of the kids. Prayer, personal ministry, fellowship, exchanging truth and testimony will always be apart of every Gathering. Hope to see you there.
  • On Saturday tf is hosting a tailgate party. We meet in the grass field beside Williamson; look for the green, circle tf sign.  Food is delivered from Wonderboys Pizza at 4pm. Come and hang out before the game, bring a friend and enjoy some time to relax. If rain is apart of the day, watch facebook to see if the party has been cancelled. It is also Family Day at this weeks game so there will be plenty going on before the game. Kickoff is 6pm against UAM.
  • There is a tentative Movie Night set for this Friday night hosted by tf. More details at the Gathering and watch for an invitation on facebook.

God Bless You Today!

Love and Serve

Scott Palmer | September 15, 2009 | 10:20 pm

These two words represent the heart of Tech Fellowship. Loving God, Loving People. Serving God by Serving People. We believe this is a simple formula for living life to its fullest.
Last week at the Gathering the Body of Christ was at its best. We spent time in worship of God and listening to His voice and then in serving each other in prayer, ministry and the mutual exchange of truth. This week we get to serve others, more to come on that in a moment.

Here is the news and updates for the week:

  • If you are interested in a child care job at Fellowship of Christians please contact me. Our childrens director is looking to fill some paid child care positions.
  • The offering for our kids in India has been very generous. Thank you so much for giving. It was fun to read the kids letters last week. At our next Gathering we will have the opportunity to write more letters and maybe send some small gifts. I have a niece that is living at the home right now. Her name is Kristen Palmer and you can find her on Facebook. She is on my friends list or you can find her on your own. This would be a neat way to get weekly updates and pictures of our kids.
  • This Wednesday, Sept. 16th we have the opportunity to serve the people of the Atkins Care Center. As you might know we had a group of 8 tf students go two weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. If you are able to go this week you can meet at the Fellowship of Christians parking lot at 5:30pm and car pool. You will be blessed, I promise.
  • Last week at the Gathering we had the chance to nominate 3 tf girls as potential representatives for tf at Homecoming. After meeting with the girls, two decided that they did not want to proceed any further and this left one nominee. Lisa Harst will be submitted as the tf Homecoming Nominee!  Congratulations Lisa! Lisa is a Vocal Music Education Major from Hot Springs, Ar. Lisa has been involved in tf now for 3 semesters. Over the next few weeks we will share more information regarding Lisa’s passions, gifts and goals.

Thanks for taking some time to keep up to date with Tech Fellowship. We value our friendships with you. Stay in contact and have a great week.

tf news and updates

Scott Palmer | September 8, 2009 | 12:35 pm

How many of you got up this morning after a three day weekend and found November on your calender and began a countdown till Thanksgiving Break? It seems far away but we all know how quick it will be here.
I want to take some time this week and update some of the things that we have going on in Tech Fellowship. I look forward each week to the opportunity to stay in contact with you through this post on the tf website.

  • Make plans to purchase one of the new tf t-shirts that are available this year. They are $5 each, the best t-shirt deal in Russellville. We will have them available at the Gathering this week.
  • As a Student Organization at TECH we have the opportunity to nominate one female student to the Homecoming Court. A nominee must have accumulative 2.5 GPA or higher and completed a minimum of 60 credit hours. They must be a full time student and in good standing with the University. tf has to turn in our nominee by Sept.18th. At the Gathering this week we will take nominations and vote. If you have a nomination before the Gathering please let me know in an email. This is a wonderful chance to highlight one of the many great girls in Tech Fellowship.
  • I hope that you are aware that tf supports 6 young orphan students in India. God called us to invest in their lives through the Boys and Girls Christian Home of India. At the Gathering we will take an offering for the kids. Our monthly goal to raise is $180. Pray about how you can be apart of these kids lives by giving a financial gift.
  • This Wednesday, September 9th  is our second worship Gathering. We will meet at the Fellowhship of Christians Auditorium at 8pm. The band will lead in worship, there will be time for testimony and prayer as well as truth from God and His Word. We will also have a representative from the Gideons with us and time to discuss our FOCUS Bible Study that begins this Sunday, September 13th at 9am. We look forward to seeing you.
  • We meet every Monday in Doc’s Place for prayer at 7am.

It was great to see those that made it to the first tailgate party on Saturday, thanks for hanging out with us. We will do it again on September 26th. Make plans to party with us and then cheer TECH on to a win over Monticello.

We’re Settled in, Right?

Scott Palmer | September 1, 2009 | 1:00 pm

I hope that at this point you have been able to find a flow to your week. Summer is officially out of our systems and we can find some peace with a schedule again. It is nice though that we have a three day weekend coming, no complaints from me.
It was great to see many of you last week at the Gathering. We had a wonderful night together as the Body of Christ. The next one  is coming Sept 9th, make plans to be there. We hope to see all of you in our nights of corporate worship.

Here are a few ways that you can hang-out with Tech Fellowship this week:

  • This wednesday, Sept 2nd we have a service project at the Atkins Care Center. This is a time to meet the elderly people and be a bright spot in their day. Bring an instument to play, a story to read or tell, questions to ask, a small craft or game and of course the more hugs and smiles the better. We will meet in the Fellowship of Christians parking lot at 5:30pm and car pool together. Everyone can plan on being back in Russellville by 7:30pm. Come with us as we give ourselves away.
  • Saturday is Tech’s first home football game. Tech Fellowship will have a tailgate party before every home game. You can find us in the field beside the Williamson Bldg. at 3pm. We will eat around 4pm, all the food and drinks are free so come and enjoy some time together. Look for the white tent with the green tf sign, hope to see you there. Kickoff for the game is 6pm.
  • With this being Labor Day Weekend I know many of you will go home to be with family, please be safe and have fun. If you are in town on Sunday we would love to have you worship with us at 10:30 in the Fellowship of Christians Auditorium. Also, there will be no Monday Prayer in Doc’s Place because of classes on campus being cancelled for the holiday.

Have a great week and please contact me if you need anything.

Starting Is Fun

Scott Palmer | August 19, 2009 | 11:19 am

I don’t know many people that  don’t like to start things, its that finishing part that sometimes gets difficult. Enough about finishing, school just started today. Its great to have you back on campus. Russellville misses you when your away. I hope that you have been able to get everything accomplished; parking passes, books, unpacked, you know the stuff. We had a great time at the Organizational Fair for the Freshman. We look forward to getting to know you better in the weeks ahead. Thanks for taking some time to stop by our booth and giving us some contact info, we want to be apart of your life in anyway that we can. We hope to spend time with you on Thursday at our Freshman Welcome Party.

I want to take time to highlight some of our Tech Fellowship activities over the next week, we would love for all Freshman and returning tf members to attend.

  • This Thursday, August 20th at 7pm tf is hosting a party for Freshman. We will be playing 16″ softball, having a cookout around a fire and enjoying getting to know each other.  You do not need to bring any softball equipment because 16″ softball is played barehand with a mush ball. You’ll love it!  Bases, bat and a ball; sounds like back on the farm to me. The party will be held on the Fellowhsip of Christians church property. Leave campus, cross over Hwy 7 and go by Whataburger on Hwy 124. Go 1 mile and after you cross over I-40 look to your left and you will see the church with the green roof. You will also see the Tech Fellowship banner. We will be in our Fellowship Hall if it rains, so the party goes on rain or shine. See you then.
  • On Sunday, August 23rd tf is hosting a welcome party for everyone to attend. It starts at 5:30pm. It is at the Heikkila’s home. Take Hwy 7 north to Pleasant View Rd (1 mile past I-40) and turn left, then travel 1 1/2 miles to Simmons Lane and turn left. The Heikkila’s is the first home on the left. Come and enjoy the fun and food together.
  • Next Monday, August 24th we will start our Monday Prayer in Doc’s Place on the couches at 7am, would love to start the week with you in prayer.
  • Our first worship Gathering is next Weds, August 26th at 8pm. More info on this in next weeks post.

Please contact us if you need anything and I look forward to seeing you at any or all of these activities.

Welcome Back

Scott Palmer | August 13, 2009 | 10:12 am

We are looking forward to your arrival in a few days. I know that some of you just have to drive across town and some of you will be driving in from other towns and states. It has been lonely in Russellville without you! I hope that your summer has been good. I love the fall semester, there is always a sense that everyone is expecting great things. I love the weather change in the weeks ahead, the fall activities are some of my favorites. I hope that as you arrive in Russellville you will come strong physically, emotionally and spiritually. Tech Fellowship continues to desire to be a place of encouragement and support as you work your way through these college years. Please make contact with us over the weekend or at the start of the week if there is anyway that we can do to help with your move in.
Here are a few ways that we can connect next week:

  • Stop by the tf booth at the Organization Fair in Tucker on Tuesday at 10:30 am
  • tf needs as many of you as can volunteer to help move in International Students on Tuesday evening around 5pm. The students have things in storage and they need help moving into their apts. Please contact me at 479-747-4167, facebook or email to let me know that you can help. This is a great way to serve and develop relationships in the first week.
  • Mark on your calender to attend a Welcome Party August 23rd from 5-8pm. More info will come next week in regards to directions, we look forward to seeing you there.

Please be safe in your travels and good luck with that packing, of course how can I forget the annual Walmart run that happens every year at this time. Be blessed and stay in contact.
