Why We Do What We Do

Scott Palmer | February 25, 2009 | 1:26 pm

Over the past few weeks I have laid out the 3 major areas of strategy that make up the call and passion of Tech Fellowship. What I want to do now is show how the things that we do align themselves with who we want to be. We want to be true to who we say we are. There are many good things to do but if something does not align itself with who we are then we should not be putting our efforts into it even though it has value for someone else.

Awareness of Jesus:
theSpot, LIFE Groups, Social Activities
Inspire a Christian Worldview:
theGathering, Monday Prayer, FOCUS, Service Projects
Release to the World:
International Students, Service Projects

As you look at our website you can find each of these areas that offer ways to be involved and read a more detailed description. My hope and prayer is that each of us will look to take personal ownership in Tech Fellowship. I am always open to be apart of discussions that will expand what we do when it fits into who we are.

Release to the World

Scott Palmer | | 11:28 am

Simply put, Tech Fellowship desires to be a launching pad for young adults to begin to live “lives on mission”. The DNA for Tech Fellowship in this final stage is MISSION. I purposely did not use the word missions. Every Christ-follower should be on a mission. We are all called, the word missions at times seems to limit itself to only those who have received the call to be involved as a career missionary.  Mark 16:15 issues all of us a command:

Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

I personally do not care where you go and with what you go;  take your God given passions and talents and go. You do your part, God will do his part; His part is always bigger than your part. As students you are preparing to use that which God has put in your heart to do. This is an exciting time, embrace it with your whole heart.

Live your lives in such a way that the world has to acknowledge you, and when they do give all the glory to God.

Inspire a Christian Worldview

Scott Palmer | February 18, 2009 | 2:42 pm

WOW! Are you serious, this seems like a huge task. I believe it can be compressed into a brief statement:

Be Imitators of God

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”  Eph. 5:1,2

When Jesus was challenged as to what were the greatest commandments His response was very precise; love God (with all your heart, soul, mind and strength) and love people (your neighbor as you do yourself). In addition to this when Jesus needed an illustration for who would be the greatest He made this statement; “the Son of Man (Jesus Himself) did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many”.

love. serve. live.

These three words are on the Tech Fellowship logo and are the simpliest definition of who we are. The DNA at this stage of Tech Fellowship is WORSHIP and SERVICE. It can be stated like this…

Love God, Love People; Serve God, Serve People; Live Life to the Fullest!

Awareness of Jesus

Scott Palmer | February 9, 2009 | 3:40 pm

Tech Fellowship has desired to reach the “unsaved and unchurched” from its beginnings.  This desire though is bigger than saving them from Hell, its about introducing a person to a relationship with their Creator and Savior.

Two words make up the DNA of Tech Fellowship at this stage in who we are: Relationship and Redemption. The relational heart of God is clearly seen in Ephesians 2:1-10 as we see the process of how a person goes from “death unto life” through the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ. Tech Fellowship will always be centered around a relational model…“meeting people on their turf, on their terms.”

God uses us as Christ-followers to be the hands and feet of Jesus on earth today to introduce people to a potential life changing, covenant relationship with God.

At the crossroads of life…
You’ll Find Us Where You Are!

The crossroads of life can be anywhere that normal life happens; homework lounge, campfires, concerts, mountain biking, crafts, you fill in the blank. The bottom line is do what comes natural to you and connect with people there.

We don’t do acts of kindness to earn the right to preach, we do them because its the heart of God.
We have to build the bridge of relationship to bear the weight of the truth.

love. serve. live.

A Movement

Scott Palmer | February 4, 2009 | 9:48 pm

I had a great time last week at the Gathering. When we as the Body of Christ come together and follow the encouragement of 1 Cor.14:26, its an awesome experience. I love it in our corporate gatherings when there is transparency, edification and worship. It’s the Body at its best. In the next four posts I am going to take some time and lay out again the Call and Passion of Tech Fellowship.

Tech Fellowship desires to be:
“Not an organization about or for God, but a life-changing
movement of God”
What is this movement?
Worship and Love for God
compels us to
Serve and Love People
which compels us to
Obey the Great Commission
in order that
All People will Worship and Love God
Philippians 2:1-11
“The organization is not the end, rather it is an agent by
which the end can be reached.”

We will look at these three areas of strategy in the coming:

  • Awareness of Jesus
  • Inspire a Christian Worldview
  • Release to the world

Have a blessed rest of the week, call me if you need anything. By the way, the Monday Prayer in Doc’s Place has been great. Hope to see you there.
